Why should you consider Doggy Daycare?
Dogs are left alone in the house now more than ever, anxiously waiting for hours until their parents to come home from work. Doggy Daycare solves this problem by taking your pup for the day where they can be loved and cared for even when you’re not around! At Doggy Daycare, we provide constant supervision to all of our dogs while helping them become socialized to other dogs. Destructive tendencies, formerly caused by anxiety or boredom, will fade away as they slowly learn “manners” and get their energy out by safely playing with friends, swimming during the summer, and getting lots of belly scratches.
Daycare is a fantastic and affordable method to make sure your pup is receiving the necessary physical and mental stimulation they need while you’re busy working to provide for them! Doggy Daycare is a must-have for any well-loved dog!
What if your dog is older, or gets overwhelmed with other dogs easily?
Don’t worry, our daycare is set up to group dogs together based on size, temperament, and energy levels! So whether you have an old pup who likes to nap after 5 minutes of play, or a brand new puppy who doesn’t know how to slow down, your pup will be placed in a play group suitable for them and their specific needs to ensure they and you get the most benefit from daycare as possible.
How do we ensure the dog’s safety during play time?
While small accidents may happen on the rare occasion, all staff on the premises are highly trained in recognizing dog behavior and body language so that we can intervene safely and in a timely manner if pups are playing too rough, or tensions between dogs are rising. Here at Best in Show, we try to use distraction or diversion tactics to redirect a dog’s focus when it’s needed. Once in a while this doesn’t always work and in those situations, to protect the rest of the group, the pup(s) who is causing the most unrest will be separated from the group. When a dog needs to be separated from the play group, they will be placed in “time out” for a short period of time, either in one of our outdoor potty yards or an indoor suite depending on the situation, and only returned to group that same day after the daycare staff believe it is safe for them to return. If a dog is not adjusting well to that particular group, we will try them with another group until we find the right fit for them. All dogs in group are accompanied constantly by a member of the staff. Daycare staff is not allowed to use their phone, or other devices, while monitoring group play to ensure your pup receives the attentiveness and supervision they deserve to maintain their safety and wellbeing. All staff also carries a walkie-talkie on them, turned on, at all times to make sure groups are never left alone and assistance can arrive immediately if needed. We also require all pets to be up-to-date on their rabies, bordetella, and DHLP vaccinations to participate in our doggy daycare. If your pup has a special exemption for this, please provide a letter from the veterinarian stating so!
How do you get started with our daycare program?
We are so excited to welcome your pup into our daycare program! The first step is filling out one of our Client Boarding/Daycare Intake Forms (also an Additional Pet Form for each additional pet you’ll have in attendance) which are free to download and print right off our website, then bring in during your assessment. We also have them on site for you to fill out there as well. Once we’ve looked over the form a staff member will meet your pup, and do a Temperament/Play assessment to make sure your pup is suitable for group play. Once your pup has been approved you can start bringing them for daycare whenever you would like!
What does the Temperament/Play Assessment entail?
First, a member of the staff will meet you and your pup and ask any questions we may have about their needs and behavior. As soon as we feel they’re ready, we’ll put your pup on a leash, and walk them around for a little bit. Next we will take them outside to our play yard, let them off leash and see how they play! Are they energetic? Nervous? Curious? If all seems to be going okay, we may bring one or two other pups out (all leashed at first) that we feel they would get along with and see how they do before entering them into the larger group! The owner will likely be asked to leave their pup’s view for the majority of the assessment because some pups can be more possessive, protective or shy around their parents. Every pup is different, and there’s not a checklist of any kind of “requirements” your pet has to meet. Some disqualifying factors could be if your pup was reacting in a very negative way to another dog (snarling, growling, backing away, etc.), or if your pup has any severe physical limitations that would make them more prone to injury during routine play.
Once your pup has been approved post-assessment, you can start bringing them in at any time for daycare!
